Comparing cost of the physical drives maybe, but quantify for me how much cost is involved for an admin to add diskspace to a Win2k server vs AS/400 and suddenly that saving evaporates.

ROFL!

Are you kidding? The price premium for drivespace on the iSeries is pure
insanity. A recent client requested a 100GB addition to their primary mail
servers, and were quoted $3200.

I am eager to know what W2K admins you might know that spend $3000 in *labor*
to add a drive.
